MY STORY

Behind the Scenes

Music is the universal language of love. My love began quite early for music. In fact most of my memories can be recalled through certain songs.  I have songs for when I’m happy, sad, relaxing or want to dance.   For me, music is more than just catchy tunes or songs to sing to...it is my way to a deeper spiritual connection. At age 8 I began piano lessons and wrote my first song at 9.
Singing also became a release for me and not only did I sing in competitive groups but I was a part of choir. I remember our record player as a kid and I would pretend to be a radio DJ playing songs and announcing tunes on my microphone.
After tragedy hit my family when I was only 8, music became an outlet and way of releasing emotions. In my teenage years, I began experimenting with drugs and alcohol and thru the use of these substances I eventually became an addict. I was lost and in pain. I struggled with severe depression and had an extremely low self esteem which was a recipe for disaster, but a perfect breeding ground for my addiction  to take over.
In 1998, I went to my first rave and I fell in love. The love and freedom I felt thru the music and people was epic. While I fell deeper and harder into my addiction the music was my guiding light. I started learning how to use computer production programs and made my own music.
I had always been friends with DJs yet never confident enough to get behind the turntables myself. Besides, I was too busy being the dancer! I became emeshed and got lost when I heard my favorite sets and DJs spin. I understood the art and felt the music.
In 2013, I decided to go to the other side of the turntables and began DJing. It was amazing!! It became my release and passion.
Eventually though, my addiction took anything and everything I had.
But I did not give up and I’ve worked hard to get myself back on track.  I have almost six years clean now.  Im a part of AA, work steps and have a sponsor.  Over time and through my trust in my higher power I have watched the things I love come back into my life.  One of those things was getting my turntables back.  I began working at a restaurant called Mission Mahi that not only served delicious tacos, but focused on helping those suffering from addiction.  We went to rehabs and churches to serve food and speak about addiction and I was able to DJ at the restaurant as well!!
One of my biggest reservations about sobriety was the belief that I would no longer be able to enjoy certain things such as raves or music.  My goal is to bring that excitement and all the positivity it brought into my life in a safe and sober environment.  I want to show people that you can still party and have fun and that sobriety means the beginning, not the end of life.
Most recently, I’ve had the opportunity to do events where I provided people with house music infused with classics from the 60s to today.  My favorite style of electronic music is drum and bass, but not everyone appreciates the skill involved in spinning this type of music.  So, I toned it down and went to house/disco.
I also provided DJ services for a wedding and am adding this as a service I can now provide.  So for your next party, whether it be graduation, anniversary, pool or wedding, let me provide you with affordable DJ services.
